James Anderson took two cheap wickets as England rebounded from the loss of three batsmen in as many overs on the second morning of the second Ashes Test against Australia at Lord's on Friday.

Anderson contributed 29 runs to an enterprising last wicket partnership of 47 from 53 balls with Graham Onions (17 not out) which took England to 425 in their first innings.

He then dismissed Phillip Hughes (4) with the third ball of his second over caught behind from a ball which brushed the Australia opener's glove as he tried to hook.

Captain Ricky Ponting followed for two, given out caught at first slip by his opposite number Andrew Strauss. Umpire Rudi Koertzen consulted with his colleague Billy Doctrove to see if the ball had carried after England had appealed for lbw.

At lunch, after a fiery opening burst from Anderson and Andrew Flintoff, Australia were 22 for two.

England lost Strauss from the second ball of the day, when he was bowled without adding to his overnight score of 161.

Strauss left a delivery from Ben Hilfenhaus, bowling from the Nursery end, which nipped back and struck his off-stump.

Graeme Swann was caught for four at second slip by Ponting off the next over from Peter Siddle and Stuart Broad (16) followed in the third over of the day, playing the ball on to his stumps.

Anderson brought up the 400 with a back-foot drive for four through the covers off Mitchell Johnson, struck another in the same direction and then got a thin edge which sped to the fine-leg boundary.

He was finally caught in the gully by Michael Hussey off Johnson, whose three wickets had cost 132 runs. Hilfenhaus was the pick of the bowlers with four for 103.
