Caddick reprimanded for obscene gesture

England fast bowler Andy Caddick has been officially reprimanded after admitting to a breach of the International Cricket Council's Code of Conduct.

Caddick was charged with a level one offence under rule 1.4, which reads: "Using language that is obscene, offensive or insulting and/or the making of an obscene gesture."

The charge related to an incident in the 14th over of the second day's play of the fourth Ashes test against Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday, the Australian Cricket Board said in a statement released on Saturday.

Caddick was shown on national television gesturing to the boisterous Melbourne Cricket Ground crowd of 50,451 after he was called for a no ball.

match referee Wasim Raja, umpires Dave Orchard, Russell Tiffin and third umpire Darrell Hair, Caddick and England coach Duncan Fletcher attended a hearing on Saturday morning before the third day's play, the ACB said.

Raja said: "At the hearing Andrew Caddick admitted the offence and apologised for his action.

Taking into account his previous excellent disciplinary record I decided the appropriate punishment is an official reprimand and also a warning as to his future conduct."

The maximum penalty was a fine of half the player's match fee.

The 34-year-old Somerset bowler had little joy in the field, taking one for 126 from 36 overs in Australia's 551 for six declared.
