India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni became only the fifth Indian batsman and third wicket-keeper to complete 9000 One-Day International runs when he surpassed the milestone during the 3rd ODI vs New Zealand in Mohali on Sunday.

- Scorecard

He joined an elite club of Indian cricketers that comprises Sachin Tendulkar (18,426 runs), Sourav Ganguly (11,363), Rahul Dravid (10,889) and Mohammad Azharuddin (9378).

He is also the third wicket-keeper to cross the 9000-run mark after Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara (14234) and Australian Adam Gilchrist (9619).

Dhoni may be well past his prime but the World Cup-winning skipper will go down as one of the greats of the game.

His last One-Day century (139 not out), came in an ODI against Australia, in Mohali itself, but that was in a losing cause.
