Ashwin shines with the ball again!

February 25, 2013 17:56 IST

He was playing in his very first Test on his home ground, the MA Chidambaram stadium.

And he ensured his debut would be a memorable one in more ways than one.

He took seven wickets in the Australian first innings and removed both the openers -- Ed Cowan and Shane Watson -- early when the visitors came out to bat for a second time on the fourth day.

However, it was his dismissal of captain Michael Clarke (31), a centurion in the first innings that ensured the result would happen earlier than expected.

The offie went on to take the wicket of James Pattinson (11) and Mitchell Starc (8) to have figures of five for 90 on the day, to go with seven for 103 in the first innings.

It also gave the 26-year-old a 10-wicket haul (rather 12) for the match, the second such instance in his fledgling career after he had picked up 12 wickets against New Zealand -- six wickets apiece in each innings -- in Hyderabad last August.
