India’s One-Day-International captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni celebrates his 35th birthday today, Thursday, July 7.
The wicketkeeper-batsman developed his own batting style -- who can forget the famous ‘helicopter’ shot -- and ’keeping techniques, displaying a natural tendency to take calculated risks while maintaining a Zen-like calm.
On his 35th birthday, former team-mates, celebrities and fans took to Twitter to wish ‘Captain Cool’.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag found a unique way of wishing Dhoni.
On his Twitter account, he wrote, “Happy Birthday @msdhoni. May you keep doing Anhoni ko Honi. #NationalHelicopterDay.”
BCCI president Anurag Thakur, the ICC and Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan too wished the Ranchi stumper.
"#HappyBirthday @msdhoni wish you a great day & 'tons' of success!," Thakur wrote on his Twitter handle.
The International Cricket Council's official handle read: "Happy Birthday to one of the greatest captains of all time, as well as an exceptional batsman and WK, @msdhoni!".
The senior Bachchan wrote, "Happy birthday MS."
Actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who plays Dhoni in his Bollywood biopic tweeted, “Happy Birthday Captain. A totally selfless cricketer & a wonderfully amazing person...Respect!”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India wrote on its Twitter feed posted: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CAPTAIN @msdhoni here's wishing you loads of success and happiness. #HappyBirthdayCaptainCool.”
Dhoni has scored 8918 runs from 278 ODIs, at a strike rate of 89.27.
Under his captaincy, India was the No 1 Test team for 18 months from December 2009.
In 90 Tests, he scored 4876 runs, including 9 centuries and 33 fifties.
