Bradman cap sells for record price

June 30, 2003 14:55 IST

Don Bradman's last baggy green cap has sold for A$425,000 (US$285,235), smashing the world record for a cricket cap.

The cap, which was originally due to be offered at auction next month, went to an anonymous Australian buyer who plans to put it on public display.

Bradman wore the cap on his final tour of England in 1948. He was wearing it when he scored his final Test century and also his last-innings duck.

The price eclipsed the previous world record for a cricket cap of US$58,690 which was paid last week for Bradman's 1947-48 cap.

Bradman, who averaged 99.94 in his 52-Test career, died in 2001 aged 92.
