The International Cricket Council's technical committee allowed Australia to replace Andrew Symonds with Cameron White in their squad for the Twenty20 World Cup.

All-rounder Symonds was on Thursday sent back home after he was found to have been involved in an alcohol related problem, putting a question mark on his career.

Explosive middle-order batsman White, who was left out when the Australia squad was announced, was named as replacement and the ICC last night approved the change.

"The ICC has confirmed the event technical committee of the ICC World Twenty20 2009 has approved Cameron White as a replacement player for Andrew Symonds in Australia's squad for the tournament," an ICC release stated.

"The committee decided that given the particular circumstances of this case it would grant Cricket Australia the right to replace Symonds in the squad," it read.

The 25-year-old White has played seven Twenty20 internationals for Australia so far, scoring 152 runs at an average of 38.

Australia face the West Indies in their World Twenty20 opener at the Oval on Saturday.
