Bumrah bags 100 Test wickets, breaks Kapil's record

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is the fastest Indian bowler to take 100 wickets. He achieved the feat in just 18 games, during the West Indies tour of India in 2013.

Jasprit Bumrah became the fastest Indian pacer to take 100 wickets in the longest format of the game on Monday.

He achieved the feat in the fourth Test against England when he removed Ollie Pope for 2 in the second session of the final day.

 

With Pope's wicket, Bumrah broke former India skipper Kapil Dev's record. Dev had taken 25 Tests to get to 100 wickets, while Bumrah achieved the milestone in his 24th game.

Former India bowler Irfan Pathan is next on the list, having attained the 100 mark in 28 matches while pacer Mohammad Shami occupies the fourth spot in the list.

"What a way to reach the milestone!@Jaspritbumrah93 bowls a beauty as Pope is bowled. Among Indian pacers, he is the quickest to reach the mark of 100 Test wickets," the BCCI tweeted.

India went on to crush England by 157 runs in the fourth Test.

Bumrah finished with figures of 22-9-27-2. He was well-supported by Ravindra Jadeja (30-11-50-2), Shardul Thakur (8-1-22-2) and Umesh Yadav (18.2-2-60-3), who completed the formalities with the second new ball as England wilted in the post-lunch session.
