Patient knocks by former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly and all-rounder Laxmi Ratan Shukla failed to lift Bengal out of the woods as they ended the second day with a 95-run deficit against Mumbai in the Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup cricket tournament in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Replying to Mumbai's first innings total of 286 for 7, Bengal batsmen failed to raise to the occasion and the team finished with 191 for eight in the first innings.

Ganguly hit a patient 43 off 80 balls with five hits to the fence while Shukla played a defiant knock of 68 with six fours and one six.

Rajesh Verma picked up 3-38 while Avishkar Salvi and Bhavin Thakkar claimed two wickets apiece for Mumbai.
