'Side which scores more in Ind-Aus series will win'

Former Australian captain Bill Lawry expects a run feast in the eagerly-anticipated India-Australia Test series and feels the side which scores most number of runs will go on to win the rubber starting December 26.

"I think this will be a big, high-scoring series of four Tests. The side that bats the best probably will win the series but I think a lot of runs are going to be made anyway," Lawry told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Lawry backed Ed Cowan to do well on debut in the first Test against India here, saying the opener would perfectly complement the aggression of his partner David Warner.

"His performances in the past two or three years have been very, very good, and obviously with the hundred the other day he's earned his position. I think the selectors are looking for a traditional opening batsman," he said.

Cowan was picked in place of Phil Hughes, who has been struggling for form in the past few months. Lawry said the 29-year-old late bloomer would do justice to the faith put in him.

"We've had (Simon) Katich and (Philip) Hughes who have been completely different to opening batsmen of the past as far as technique is concerned and I guess maybe they're looking for a more traditionalist opener to go along with Warner, who is certainly not traditional. He's going to be very aggressive from ball one. It might be a good mix," he

explained.
