Australia, South Africa fined for slow over-rates

Australia and South Africa have been fined for maintaining slow over-rates during their first One-day International at the WACA.

Javagal Srinath of the Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees imposed the fines after each side was ruled to be two overs short of its target in yesterday's match when time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.

As such, George Bailey, who led the side after Michael Clarke suffered a hamstring injury while batting and took no further part in the match, and AB de Villiers have been fined 40 per cent each of their match fees, while their players have received 20 per cent fines.

If Bailey and de Villiers are found guilty of one more minor over-rate offence in ODIs over the next 12 months, they will receive a one-match suspension as per the provisions of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
