As Australia's first foreign cricket coach, Mickey Arthur will have to overcome a lot many "cultural issues" during his tenure, feels the team's former coach John Buchanan.

Arthur got the top job, on Tuesday, succeeding Tim Nielson. Buchanan, who is New Zealand's director of cricket now after serving eight years as Australia coach, said South African Arthur will have to make a lot many adjustments.

"No matter where you go ... there are cultural issues, no question about that -- even down to your language and your body language," Buchanan, who also served as IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders coach, was quoted as saying by the Australian Associated Press.

"Those things take time to be understood and merge into a new system. It is understanding how people tick ... and is that something to do with being in a cricket team or something to do with the country?

"Therefore, you have to be reasonably careful when you make some decisions. I had some less memorable experiences in India with Knight Riders and Middlesex (in England in 1998) for those very reasons," he recalled.

Buchanan and Arthur will be rival dressing rooms when Australia take on New Zealand in a series next month.
