Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin created history as he became the first Indian cricketer to pick 30 wickets or more in a Test series on two separate occasions.

Ashwin finished as the top wicket-taker in the four-match series against England, picking up 32 wickets in four Tests at an average of 14.71.

He claimed 5/47, while Axar Patel took 5/48 as India thrashed England by an innings and 25 runs in the fourth and final Test, to win the series 3-1, in Motera, on Saturday.

He was also named the man of the series for his superb showing with the ball, as he took three five-wicket hauls in the four Tests, while also scoring a century in the second game in Chennai.

The off-spinner had achieved a similar feat in 2015, when he picked up 31 wickets in the four-match series against South Africa.

Bishan Singh Bedi, Harbhajan Singh, BS Chandrasekhar and Kapil Dev are the other Indian bowlers, who have taken 30 wickets or more in a series.

Ashwin also became only the fourth Indian to complete the landmark of 400 wickets in Tests in the third match of the series against England in Ahmedabad.
