Former Test middle order batsman Praveen Amre has been named coach of 36-time Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai for a two-year term.
The 38-year-old Amre, who played 11 Tests and 37 One-Day Internationals between 1991 and 1994, was selected ahead of three other ex-India cricketers -- former Mumbai skipper Ashok Mankad, swing bowler Balwinder Singh Sandhu and opener Kenia Jayantilal.
"Amre has played for India. He has a lot of experience in man management and he's a good coach," said Mumbai Cricket Association's Cricket Improvement Committee chief Madhav Apte, after the panel chose Amre following a 90-minute meeting on Monday.
The job fell vacant when Karsan Ghavri stepped down after a year's stint and joined Tripura as coach of the team.
Amre was the team's batting coach last season.
