Australia still need 91 for victory

January 05, 2025

Aus 71-3 (13 ovs) and 181 vs Ind 185 and Ind 157  | Scorecard

Australia are 71 for 3 at lunch on Day 3 of the 5th Test at the SCG on Sunday.

The hosts still need 91 to win.

Prasidh Krishna has been the pick of the bowlers for India with 3 for 37.

Earlier in the morning, India were dismissed for 157 with only 16 added to their overnight score after Pat Cummins and Scott Boland took the remaining four wickets, the latter finishing with 6 for 45 in the 2nd innings.

Coming out to chase 162 for victory, Krishna got rid of Konstas, Labuschagne and Smith to have Australia in a spot. Australia's hopes now rest on Travis Head and Usman Khawaja if they are to win this Test and the series.

Siraj continues and after a dot, Khawaja plays the ball down and takes a single. Head is then hit on the leg, a stifled appeal for LBW.

Head then whips the ball to mid-wicket for a dot.

Head then takes his hand off the bat as he defends.

A bouncer next and Head safely ducks under it.  And that is lunch on Day 3 of the 5th Test.

Krishna continues and Khawaja is happy to play out three balls watchfully.

Khawaja then takes a single off a leg bye. A dot later, Head ends the over with a four past mid-off. 5 runs come off the over.

Head is the new man in as Siraj continues.

Khawaja lets the first one go before he gets a couple towards mid-wicket.

He then takes a single to deep square leg.

Head plays a dot before getting off the mark with a single as he tucks the ball down to the leg side.

Khawaja then gets a thick outside edge that flies past gully, Jadeja dives and he does well to keep it down to three even though replays suggest there was contact with the ropes.
