Jadeja takes 3 wickets as Kiwis dismissed for 255

October 26, 2024

NZ 255 (69.4 ovs) and 259 vs Ind 156 | Scorecard

Spinners inflicted quick blows as India bowled out New Zealand for 255 in their second innings on the third day of the second Test in Pune on Saturday.

But New Zealand built a lead of 358 runs, and the victory target of 359 is quite challenging on a crumbling Pune pitch.

Resuming at 198 for five, the Kiwis lost their remaining five wickets for 57 runs in an hour into the first session itself.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (2/97) and left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja (3/72) shared the spoils.

Jadeja continues and Phillips cuts the ball but refuses the single.

He then goes inside out as he comes down the track and that is a six over long on.

A dot later, the batters take a tight couple to extra cover as Sundar gets a direct hit from the deep and O-Rourke is run out and New Zealand are all out for 255. New Zealand set India 359 for victory.

Ashwin continues and Phillips starts the over with a dot.

Phillips then misses the next ball at a swing.

Phillips then plays a reverse sweep but decides against the single.

Phillips then swings his bat and hits the ball over long on for a six! NZ lead now 350.

A dot later, Phillips takes  a single off the last ball of the over as 7 runs come off the over.

William ORourke is the last man in and he plays out three dots and that is a wicket maiden.

Jadeja continues and after a dot, there is an appeal for LBW as the ball seems to have hit the batter's pad flap. No says the umpire.

Ajaz then goes for the big one and Sundar takes a good running catch in the deep and the Kiwis lose the 9th wicket.  Ajaz out for 1.

Ashwin continues and after three dots, the ball hits the back pad and balloons up and past the keeper and the batters take a single.

Ashwin wanted to take the review but gets no support for the LBW review.

Two dots to end the over as just the one comes off it.
