October 20, 2024

NZ 0-0 (0.4 ov); Target to win: 107 | Scorecard

Welcome to the coverage of Day 5 of the first Test between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru on Sunday.

New Zealand are on course for a victory in the series opener as they need 107 runs for victory.

However, weather could play a part. It rained heavily overnight in Bengaluru and there is some rain predicted in the morning.

The covers are in place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium because of the rain.

Accuweather is predicting thunderstorms for a couple of hours from 9am onwards before the weather is expected to clear later in the day.

India made a spirited comeback on Day 4 as they raked up 402 in their second innings after getting skittled out for 46 in their first innings.

Sarfaraz Khan top-scored for India in their second innings with 150 while Rishabh Pant made 99. At one stage, India looked on course to set the Kiwis a challenging target before their pacers triggered a lower order collapse.

William O'Rourke took 3/92 while Matt Henry bagged 3/102 for the tourists, who can seal their first victory against India in the country since 1988.

India lost their last seven wickets for 62 runs against the second new ball as the two pacers put New Zealand on course for victory.
