India leave out Ashwin, Jadeja

November 22, 2024

India captain Jasprit Bumrah has won the toss and elected to bat against Australia in the first Test in Perth.

India have handed debut to all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy and young pacer Harshit Rana.

They have gone in with four pacers also including Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. In another surprise move, Washington Sundar is the lone spinner as India leave out both Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin.

"We are looking to bat first, it looks like a good wicket. The wicket gets quicker after the first session," said Bumrah at the toss.

Australia have also fielded a debutant in Nathan McSweeney, who will open the batting.
