As opener Gautam Gambhir hogged the limelight on the first day of third Test against Australia at the Ferozshah Kotla in Delhi on Wednesday, India skipper Anil Kumble quietly touched another milestone, becoming the second most-capped Indian Test player.
Playing in his 132nd Test, Kumble went past compatriot Kapil Dev, who played in 131 matches between 1978 and 1994.
The 38-year-old leg spinner, who started his Test career way back in 1990, is now in joint-sixth place with former West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh in the most-capped Test players' list.
Kumble is behind England's Alec Stewart (133), Australia's Shane Warne (145), Sachin Tendulkar (153rd, including Kotla Test) and former Aussie captains Allan Border (156) and Steve Waugh (168).
Kumble will leave Walsh behind and draw level with Stewart when he leads the Indian side in the next Test against Australia in Nagpur.
Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar, during his innings of 68, equaled Allan Border's world record of 90 innings of fifty and above (27 hundreds and 63 fifties).
Tendulkar has so far scored 39 hundreds and 51 fifties).
Steve Waugh (32 hundreds and 50 fifties) and Brian Lara (34 hundreds and 48 fifties) are on joint third with 82 innings of fifty and above.
