The numbers game - 2nd Test, Day 3
October 19, 2008 20:44 IST

- Day's report | Images | Scorecard

1 - The Gambhir-Sehwag pair provided the first instance of an Indian opening pair putting on fifty and hundred runs in the two innings of same Test match against Australia. These two had added 70 in the first innings.

4 - Dhoni became the fourth Indian captain not to enforce the follow-on upon opposition despite being entitled to do so. Others to do so are Sachin Tendulkar (v New Zealand at Ahmedabad in 1999-00), Sourav Ganguly (v Australia at Sydney in 2003-04) and Rahul Dravid (v England at The Oval in 2007). Interestingly, all three Tests ended in draw!

6 - Amit Mishra became the sixth Indian bowler to take a five-wicket haul in his debut innings.

59.62 - Average runs Sehwag adds to his score on the following day after remaining unbeaten at the close of play. Will be interesting to see how many he adds on day four.

60 - Number of wickets taken by Harbhajan against Australia on Indian soil -- most by any bowler. He went ahead of team mate Anil Kumble's tally of 59.

201 - India's first innings lead against Australia. It is the seventh time that India has got a 200 runs or more lead against Australia.
