PCB bans Yousuf for joining ICL

November 05, 2008 19:12 IST

The Pakistan Cricket Board banned Mohammad Yousuf after the veteran batsman announced his tie-up with the rebel Indian Cricket League.

''He is now contracted to the ICL and just like the other players who joined the league, our policy is clear he can't play for or in Pakistan,'' PCB Director of Cricket Operations Zakir Khan told media persons on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old Yousuf, spread shock waves within the PCB after he abruptly left for India to play in the ongoing ICL Twenty20 tournament, just hours after he was named in a 15-man squad for the ODI series against West Indies in Abhu Dhabi, to be held later this month.

Meanwhile, in New Delhi, Yousuf confirmed that he would play in the ICL for Pakistan's Lahore Badshahs and said he was well aware that now he does not have a future in the national team.

''I want to play for my country but I know I won't be allowed to by the Board,'' Yousuf said, adding, ''My record proves that I can play in every form of the game.''
