Former Indian Test skipper Anil Kumble sought to rubbish speculation that senior players were announcing retirement under BCCI diktat.
"There is no talk of BCCI telling any senior player that he has to go. Senior players know when to retire," Kumble asserted dismissing questions by scribes in this regard at a press meet in Bangalore on his return from Delhi, a day after announcing his retirement.
"Senior players have offered some fantastic services and contributed immensely to the standard of the game. Sourav Ganguly took his own decision and I have taken my own decision. Everyone knows that when their time is up," the leg-spinner said.
"Talk of retirement scheme is all rubbish," he said.
On reports that have appeared in a section of the media about players' fitness, including about himself, he said "you should not start questioning people's ability and competence. One bad series in Sri Lanka does not mean they are not good."
