Pakistan batsman Salman Butt on Sunday expressed his dismay at being made a non-regular member in the Kolkata Knight Riders team in the ongoing Indian Premier League.

"I came here on the heels of some good scores in Pakistan, and when in-form everybody loves to play. Sitting out just takes the form away," Butt told newspersons after his side lost by two runs to Chennai Super Kings via the Duckworth-Lewis rain rule at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Butt, who joined the team after the first two matches, has featured in the final XI in only five of the nine games played since then.

Asked about the Knight Riders using seven different opening combinations in the tournament so far, he said, dripping sarcasm, "It's a good question to those who decide the batting order."

The Pakistani left-hander blamed the poor batting display for the side's defeat.

"Again our batting faltered. Probably we were 25 runs short on this wicket," he said.

Batting has been the Achilles' heel for the Knight Riders, with the main problem area being the first six to seven overs, where the side has regularly lost many wickets.

The batsmen fared their worst in the previous encounter opposite Mumbai Indians two days back, when their innings folded for just 67.

Butt conceded it would be a difficult task for them to make it to the semi-final now.

"We will have to try and win every game from now on. It gets difficult but we have to try and win every game," he said.
