The Mukesh Ambani-owned Mumbai franchise made it's presence felt in round two of the Indian Premier League's player auction, with the purchase of Harbhajan Singh and Sanath Jayasuriya for a total purse of US $18,25,000.
Jayasuriya fetched the highest bid in round 2, for $975,000 against his base price of $250,000.
Mumbai, which will be led by Sachin Tendulkar, then made another strong bid for Harbhajan, and pocketed him for $850,000 against his base price of $250,000.
Sri Lankan wicketkeeping sensation Kumar Sangakkara also fetched a high price of $700,000, bought by Mohali, partly owned by Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia.
Indian Test skipper Anil Kumble, as expected, was snapped up by Vijay Mallya's Bangalore for $500,000
Earlier, India's ODI captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni fetched the highest price in round one of the auction. He was bought by Indian Cements, owner of the Chennai franchise, for a whopping 1.5 million US dollars, approximately Rs six crore.
