Shastri agrees to chair NCA

September 29, 2007 20:12 IST

Former Test captain Ravi Shastri has accepted the Board of Control for Cricket in India's offer to chair the Bangalore-based National Cricket Academy.

Shastri had accepted the offer in principle on Friday but wanted a day or two to look into his commitments before acceding.

The BCCI's general body had felt that Shastri was the man best suited for the high-profile job, left vacant by the sacking of Kapil Dev, who aligned with the rebel Indian Cricket League.

BCCI sources said the cricketer-turned-commentator has agreed to be chairman of the academy.

NCA has two former Test cricketers associated with it in off-spinner Shivlal Yadav and Lalchand Rajput, who hold posts of directors, along with a full-time manager in Col K R Nair.
