Rain washed out the Twenty20 World Cup match between India and Scotland in Durban on Thursday.

The teams were awarded a point each after play failed to get underway.

India are scheduled to play Pakistan in their second Group D match at the same venue on Friday.

Pakistan, who thrashed Scotland by 51 runs in their first match, have a net runrate of +2.5 and are through to the next round.

For India to reach the Super Eight stage, they have to beat Pakistan, or lose by a small margin to have a better run-rate then Scotland (-2.5).

Scotland captain Ryan Watson had won the toss and elected to field in the Group D match.

Showers forced both teams to abandon their warm-ups and head indoors just an hour before the scheduled start. The covers were brought out but after a brief spell the rain stopped. The two skippers came out for the toss before rain intervened again.
