The beleaguered Indian team was dealt a fresh injury blow on Friday with paceman Munaf Patel being laid low by a sore ankle just two days ahead of the third one-day international against South Africa.

Patel, who picked two wickets but bowled at a much slower pace in the second tie in Durban, had a sore left ankle and did not take part in the indoor net session at the University of Cape Town.

Indian media manager Rajan Nair said Munaf underwent a precautionary x-ray and should recover in time for the Sunday encounter.

"It is not a serious injury. The x-ray was done as a precautionary measure," Nair said.

Patel is the second player to come under the injury cloud after Virender Sehwag sustained a freak finger injury just before the start of the tour-opening warm-up match in Benoni on November 16.

The injury kept Sehwag out of the second match which India lost by 157 runs.

The Indians are already without the services of key ODI batsman Yuvraj Singh, who suffered a ligament injury last month and has been ruled out of the entire tour.
