Anil Kumble had a disappointing start to his county campaign, picking one wicket for 100 runs, on the first day of Surrey's four-day Division Two County Championship match against Somerset.
Kumble, who has been hired by the English county in the hope of finding a place in Division One, bowled 28 overs after Somerset elected to bat and closed the day at 442 for two in 104 overs, on Wednesday.
The veteran Indian had Arul Suppiah caught by Azhar Mahmood for 71 when he was scoring runs with frequent boundaries. The batsman hit 10 fours in his 138-ball knock.
Opener Justin Langer was unbeaten on 234 at close.
Ian Salisbury was the other bowler to pick a wicket at Woodbridge Road in Guildford.
Dinesh Mongia went wicketless for Leicestershire as Derbyshire closed the day at 355 for eight in 104 overs at Grace Road.
Mongia bowled 16 overs and gave 33 runs while Stuart Broad was the most successful, returning four for 77 on the first day.
