Afridi to miss last two one-dayers

February 14, 2006 00:39 IST

Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi will miss the final two one-day internationals against India because of a rib injury.

The team have already lost fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, who has been sent home to recover from an ankle injury. Mohammad Sami was called into the squad as a replacement earlier on Monday.

Afridi, who played in Monday's five-wicket defeat to India in Lahore, has been advised to rest for two weeks after sustaining the injury in training.

"Afridi will be leaving for home on Tuesday and will also consult specialists to find out the exact nature of his injury which has bothered him for the last few days," Pakistan team official Asad Mustafa told Reuters.

Afridi scored 19 runs and bowled three expensive overs as Pakistan went 2-1 down in the five-match series but Mustafa said he had not been well throughout the match.

"He has been vomiting since Sunday night and also fell sick just before the start of the match but he was keen to play after getting medication.

"But after a proper check up after the game he has been advised to take at least two weeks rest," he said.

Mustafa added no decision had been made on calling up a replacement for Afridi.

The last two one-dayers are in Multan on Feb. 16 and Karachi three days later.
