Inzamam to lead Pakistan for World Cup
December 17, 2006 21:26 IST

Inzamam-ul-Haq will captain Pakistan at next year's World Cup in the Caribbean, the Pakistan Cricket Board said on Sunday.

There were question marks over the fitness and form of Inzamam, who is captain since November 2003, before he led Pakistan to a convincing 2-0 Test and 3-1 one-day series win over the West Indies at home this month.

"We have decided to retain Inzamam as we want to maintain continuity and stability in the team," PCB chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf told a news conference.

"We feel that Inzamam had done an admirable job in binding the team together in difficult conditions and despite facing criticism."

He will also captain the team for next month's tour of South Africa.

Talat Ali was named manager for both tours.

The PCB also appointed Pervez Mir media manager for the World Cup.
