Jayawardene to miss match to get married

October 26, 2005 20:00 IST

Sri Lanka batsman Mahela Jayawardene will miss a game of the one-day series in India in order to get married, a team official said on Wednesday.

Jayawardene, 28, will skip game four of the seven-match series, to be played in Pune next Thursday, to be in Colombo that day for his marriage to a tourism executive.

Team manager Michael Tissera said the middle-order batsman would re-join the team for the fifth match in Ahmedabad on November 6.

"His wedding was fixed a long time ago," said Tissera. "This series was originally scheduled to begin on November 7, so he didn't think he would have to miss any matches then."

Sri Lanka lost Tuesday's opening game in Nagpur by 152 runs.

The next match will be played in Mohali on Friday.
