India cricket coach Greg Chappell sought to steer clear of any potential controversy by declining comments on the time span for the return of Sourav Ganguly, who was replaced as captain by Rahul Dravid.

Asked if there is a possibility of Ganguly returning to the side for the Sri Lanka series in the wake of his enterprising century for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy tie against North Zone on Friday, Chappell said: "Not for the first two games (against Sri Lanka)."

The selectors announced a 15-member Indian squad last week for the first two one-day matches against the islanders, beginning at Nagpur on Tuesday.

On the possibility of Ganguly returning to the side after the two games, Chappell, whose public spat with Ganguly made headlines recently, said: "You have to ask the BCCI and the selectors; that's not something I can answer.

"I am not going to comment on selection issues. We have got a group that's preparing for the first two games."

While announcing the change of guard, BCCI secretary S K Nair had said Dravid's appointment as captain had nothing to do with Ganguly's injury and he will be considered as a player depending on his fitness report.
