Pietersen doubtful for third ODI

October 08, 2005 13:56 IST
England batsman Kevin Pietersen has a "minor" strain of his right hamstring and is doubtful for the World XI's final one-day match against Australia on Sunday, team coach John Wright said on Saturday.

Pietersen had a scan on his leg on Saturday after the 25-year-old pulled up sharply and clutched his leg when fielding at long-on in the second match on Friday.

"He had a scan today (Saturday)
and has a minor strain," Wright told reporters. "He'll be reassessed tomorrow (as to whether he can play the final match)."

Pietersen batted with a runner, scoring 16 in the World XI's 273 all out chasing Australia's 328 for four on Friday. Australia won the series with the 55-run victory following a 93-run victory in the first match on Wednesday.

South African-born Pietersen is not part of the World XI test squad who play Australia in a six-day Test next week, but was named in England's squad for their tour of Pakistan, which begins later this month.
