1st Test: Sourav in team, Dhoni to make Test debut

Deposed India captain Sourav Ganguly was named in the squad for the first Test against Sri Lanka.

Ganguly, who was earlier stripped of the ODI and Test captaincy, was included in the team as a "batting all-rounder" after a marathon meeting of the five-member selection committee on Wednesday morning.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni was rewarded for his performance in ODIs with a berth in the Test squad.

VVS Laxman and leg spinner Anil Kumble, out of India's scheme of things for one-dayers, were named in the 15-member squad, which also has rookie pace bowler R P Singh.

Paceman Zaheer Khan, who has been impressive in the domestic matches of late, was excluded along with 'keeper Dinesh Kaarthick.

The one-day squad for the last two matches against South Africa was unchanged.

The squads were announced by Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary S K Nair at a press conference, where chairman of selectors Kiran More was also present.

Test squad: Rahul Dravid (captain), Virender Sehwag (vice-captain), Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, Mohd. Kaif, Gautam Gambhir, M S Dhoni, Murali Kartik, Anil Kumble, Ajit Agarkar, Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, R P Singh.

One-day squad: Rahul Dravid (captain), Virender Sehwag (vice-captain), Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, Murali Kartik, Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar, Sreesanth, Gautam Gambhir, Rudra Pratap Singh, Mohammad Kaif, Jai Prakash Yadav.
