Australia all rounder Shane Watson is to have surgery on the dislocated shoulder he suffered in the first Test against West Indies on Sunday and could be out for up to two months, Cricket Australia (CA) said on Monday.
Watson hurt himself after landing heavily on his left shoulder when diving to stop a ball in the second innings. He was immediately replaced and played no further part in Australia's 379-run victory.
"He partially dislocated his shoulder and he'll have arthroscopic surgery tomorrow," CA spokeswoman Belinda Dennett said on Monday.
"They'll know more about the time frame after the surgery, but as a rough estimate they're saying two months."
Watson made 16 runs with the bat in his only innings, while he had figures of one for 25 off six overs in West Indies second innings. He did not bowl in the visitors' first innings.
Leg spinner Stuart MacGill was the 12th man for the first Test but released to play domestic first-class cricket and is likely to be called into the squad for the second of the three-Test series in Hobart beginning on November 17.
