Rana doubtful for 2nd Test

March 15, 2005 15:20 IST

Pakistani seamer Naved-ul-Hassan Rana is likely to miss the second Test against India starting at Kolkata's Eden Gardens on Wednesday due to a shoulder injury.

The 27-year-old was hurt while diving to save a boundary on the final day of the series opener in Mohali, which ended in a draw on Saturday after a fightback from Pakistan's lower order batsmen.

Naved played an important role with an unbeaten 38 as the visitors, reduced to 10 for three with 204 needed to avoid an innings defeat, managed to reach 496
for nine.

He took just one wicket for 139 runs, but his injury is an additional blow to Pakistan who were already without pace spearhead Shoaib Akhtar due to injury.

The visitors are likely to call up 23-year-old left-arm seamer Mohammad Khalil, who played his only Test against Australia at Perth in December.

Pakistan are playing three Tests and six one-day internationals on their first full tour of India in six years.
