Musharraf seeks invite for series

"I have seen some news reports attributed to me in the media that BCCI has decided to extend invitation to Musharraf. I would like to clarify that any invitation to another head of state has to be routed through the Government of India and it is for the Indian government, and not the BCCI, to extend invitation to President Musharraf. We would only facilitate his stay in India," Mahendra told rediff.com on phone from Chandigarh.

Musharraf had expressed his willingness to watch the series.

BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla said the government was in touch with the board and a decision was likely soon.

"We are yet to get a positive response from Islamabad. Once they indicate the dates then the board can tell the government to extend invitation to President Musharraf," he said.

According to board sources, it is not known if Musharraf wants to watch a Test match or the one-day matches.
