The Maharashtra Cricket Association dismissed as "absurd" media reports that former Delhi captain Ajay Jadeja and ex-Mumbai skipper Sairaj Bahutule are being roped in by the association to play for Maharashtra.
"This all talk in the media about Jadeja and Bahutule already contracted to play for Maharashtra is absurd. If at all they are going to represent Maharashtra, then that decision will be taken by the selection committee, which is yet to convene a meeting to discuss team composition," MCA president Ajay Shirke said.
Asked specifically whether Jadeja and Bahutule would be playing for Maharashtra in the coming first-class season, Shirke said, "I do not know anything about it."
He said when the [selection] committee sought some clarification on selection policy, the managing committee of the MCA said if it so wanted it can select "two to three" players of the highest calibre from other states.
Recently, the MCA had taken a major decision by appointing Australian Darren Holder as the team coach.
