BCCI ratifies Chappell's appointment

Day One of the two-day in-camera Working Committee meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India in Thiruvananthapuram, on Thursday, discussed a few controversial issues the Board of beset with.

The BCCI's top brass, which was in full strength, discussed telecast rights, the proposal to merge the Women's Cricket Association of India with the BCCI, suspension of all financial assistance to the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and India's upcoming tour proposals.

Day 1 saw India's tour proposals abroad being cleared and the appointment of Greg Chappell as the team's coach being ratified.

The contentious issues, like suspension of financial assistance to the TNCA and continuance of Rajasthan Cricket Association president Lalit Kumar Modi in the post, also came up for discussion and will be decided upon tomorrow.

The Indian team's tour proposals to Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Pakistan, and the South African team's tour to India were approved.

Board secretary S K Nair informed that the proposal to conduct the ICC champions' Trophy next year in the country also figured in the day's discussions. He said BCCI secretary Ranbir Singh Mahendra would announce the decisions after the conclusion of Friday's proceedings.
