Australian batsmen on fire

Captain Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer and Damien Martyn hit centuries as Australia warmed up for the first Ashes Test by piling up 582 for seven against Leicestershire on Saturday.

Martyn blazed the trail with an unbeaten 154 on the second day of the three-day match at Grace Road.

Ponting chipped in with 119 while opening batsman Langer struck 115.

Langer, who did not feature in the one-day internationals earlier in the tour, was playing his first competitive innings for more than three months.

Tail-ender Jason Gillespie also struck 49 not out as Australia opened up a massive 365-run lead on first innings.

Leicestershire were bowled out for 217 on the opening day, paceman Brett Lee taking four for 53.

The first Test against England at Lord's starts on Thursday.
