Rain washes out day 1

Rain washed out the first day of the fifth and final Test between South Africa and England on Friday.

The game was due to begin at 0830 GMT. The start was rescheduled to 1000 and again to 1200 GMT, but with the toss yet to take place, the covers remained on as heavy rainfall swept the ground.

England lead the series 2-1.

South Africa named all-rounder Andrew Hall and fast bowler Andre Nel in their starting line-up, replacing batsman Boeta Dippenaar and fast bowler Dale Steyn.

England are yet to name their team.

South Africa team:

Graeme Smith (captain), Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Rudolph, Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers, Mark Boucher, Andrew Hall, Shaun Pollock, Nicky Boje, Makhaya Ntini, Andre Nel.
