Injury scare for Vaughan

August 02, 2005 21:23 IST

England's preparations for the second Ashes Test against Australia suffered a blow on Tuesday when captain Michael Vaughan was struck on the elbow during net practice at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Vaughan, who was hit on the right elbow by England fast bowler Chris Tremlett, was taken to hospital for a precautionary X-ray.

"We can't make any comment on the nature of his injury until it has been diagnosed by medical specialists," said an England and Wales Cricket Board spokesman.

Vaughan's side trail the five-match series 1-0 after losing by 239 runs at Lord's 10 days ago.

The second Test starts on Thursday.
