The Supreme Court stayed the appointment of retired Justice S Mohan as interim administrator of the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Monday.
The Chennai high court had appointed the former Supreme Court judge in place of the newly-elected office-bearers of the Board.
A division bench, comprising Justice Santosh Hegde and Justice S B Sinha, also stayed the appointment of Jagmohan Dalmiya as patron-in-chief of the BCCI.
The court felt that prima facie the Chennai high court did not act properly in passing the order to restrain the newly-elected office-bearers of the BCCI while entertaining a review petition filed by Netaji Cricket Club.
The bench observed that if it is satisfied with the claims of the Netaji Cricket Club that there were irregularities in the recent elections, held on September 29, it "may order holding of fresh elections for the Board".
Notices have been issued to the Maharashtra Cricket Association and Netaji Cricket Club, who had moved the Chennai high court against the election of the new office-bearers.
The matter will now come up for hearing on October 26.
