Lara back for West Indies
May 24, 2004 21:41 IST

West Indies have named an experienced team for the first Test against Bangladesh, which starts in St Lucia on Friday.

Brian Lara returns as captain after missing the one-day series, and there is only one uncapped player in the squad of 13 -- Trinidad & Tobago fast bowler Ravi Rampaul.

The 19-year-old has played in 14 one-day internationals, but he has yet to make his Test debut.

Jermaine Lawson returns after missing the England series while undergoing remedial work on his bowling action.

Tino Best and Fidel Edwards complete the pace quartet while Dave Mohammed, the left-arm unorthodox spinner, comes in.

The Test will be Bangladesh's first in the Caribbean. West Indies won the rain-hit three-match one-day series that preceded the Tests 3-0.

Squad: Brian Lara (captain), Ramnaresh Sarwan, Chris Gayle, Devon Smith, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Dwayne Smith, Ridley Jacobs, Ravi Rampaul, Tino Best, Fidel Edwards, Jermaine Lawson, Pedro Collins, Dave Mohammed.
