England gamble on Flintoff
July 01, 2004 15:53 IST
England called up all rounder Andy Flintoff for Thursday's triangular tournament one-dayer against West Indies at Headingley in a bid to salvage their campaign following two heavy opening defeats.

Flintoff, who will play as a specialist batsman if selected from the squad, had been ruled out of the tournament after hurting his left foot in England's Test series victory over New Zealand.

England said the priority would be to get him fit for the four-Test

series against West Indies starting later this month.

But England's one-day side have been crushed in both their opening matches, bowled out for 147 by West Indies and for 101 by New Zealand, and are in danger of missing the Lord's final on July 10.
