Kabir spares Bangladesh blushes
February 15, 2004 21:52 IST
Strike bowler Alamgir Kabir papered over Bangladesh cracks with a four-wicket burst on Saturday as the touring side made a less-than-convincing start to their tour of Zimbabwe.

The medium-fast right-arm bowler took four for 24 from nine overs late on the first day of the three-day match against Zimbabwe A after Bangladesh had been dismissed for 199.

In reply, Zimbabwe A closed on 71 for

five at the Academy Cricket Ground in Harare.

Bangladesh opening batsman Shahriar Hossain made the best score of the day with 75 after his captain opted to bat. Hossain held the innings together as the tourists crumbled to 90 for six.

He fell to off spinner Trevor Gripper with the score on 137 after a partnership of 47 for the seventh wicket with Manjural Islam (40).
