September 24, 2003 20:06 IST

Rashid Latif on Wednesday resigned as captain of Pakistan's cricket team.

"I have resigned. But I cannot say anything more," Latif told Reuters.

The 34-year-old Latif, who ended a five-match ban on the weekend, decided to step down a day after being warned by the Pakistan Cricket Board to act more responsibly if he wanted retain the position.

He was banned for five ODIs by International Cricket Council match referee Mike Procter after Bangladesh lodged a complaint about a disputed catch during the third day of the third Test in Multan on September 5.
