Buoyed by the success of the Champions Trophy, the International Cricket Council is now planning to add another high-profile event, billed as the 'Super Series', to its calendar.

The tournament will pit the best team in the world against the Rest of the World side, the members of which would be picked based on their international rankings.

"The World Cup and Champions Trophy are the two major events being conducted by ICC. Soon ICC will stage another event called the Super Series," ICC chief Ehsan Mani was quoted as saying in the Gulf News on Monday.

"The Super Series will be a contest between the best team in the world against the Rest of the World, which will comprise top players," Mani said.

Elaborating on the proposed event, Mani added, "Players for the Rest of the World will be selected, based on the ICC rankings for the best players. The best openers and outstanding middle-order batsmen as well as bowlers will make the team."

The series, comprising one Test match and three One-Day Internationals will be held after every four years.

"ICC will provide excellent incentives to the players to ensure that the event is keenly contested. Most likely, nearly half a million dollars will be on offer in every match," he said.
