Gujarat were comfortably placed at 213 for six in their first innings against hosts Assam on Sunday, the second day of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'B' tie at the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati.

Resuming at 32 for two after bundling out Assam for 180, Gujarat batsmen Aakash Christian and Siddhartha Trivedi took the score to 76 before Trivedi was bowled by Sukhwinder Singh for 21.

Niraj Patel joined Christian and the duo scored some easy runs before Patel, impatient for a quick single, was run out for 15.

Christian was then joined by Mukund Parmar and the duo slammed the Assam bowlers. At lunch, the visitors were 115 for four.

Christian, who was batting with aplomb, was the first to return to the pavilion in the post-lunch session when he was bowled by Sukhwinder. His masterly 73 was made off 235 balls with the help of six boundaries.

Parmar was joined by Kirat Damania who quickly returned to the pavilion scoring only one and was replaced by Timil Patel. Parmar (43) and Patel (29) were at the crease when the stumps were drawn for the day.
