Delhi earned two points by virtue of the first innings lead against Uttar Pradesh in the four-day Elite Group 'A' Ranji Trophy match which ended in a draw in Kanpur on Monday.
Delhi will now host Mumbai while Uttar Pradesh face Punjab at Meerut in the second round starting on Saturday.
Uttar Pradesh failed to avoid the follow-on, being bundled out in their first innings for 243 in reply to Delhi's 478 in their first essay.
At close on the final day today, Uttar Pradesh scored 141 for the loss of one wicket in their second innings.
Resuming at 206 for 7, the strong resistance by former UP captain Gyanendra Pandey (84) came to an end after he added 24 runs to his overnight score.
Pandey hit eight fours and one six in his impressive knock, which held the shaky UP innings together.
Soon after his dismissal, Uttar Pradesh were bowled out for 243, which came in 107.5 overs and 475 minutes.
Falling short of the follow-on target by 96 runs, UP were made to bat again by Delhi skipper Mithun Manhas.
UP openers Rohit Prakash and Jyoti Yadav took the score to 42 without loss at lunch but the writing was already on the wall by then. After Rohit (26) was out, trapped leg before by
Rahul Sanghvi, Rahat Ilahi joined Jyoti Yadav and both took the score to 141.
Jyoti remained not out on 79 while Ilahi made 27.
